Janine,

I would call the breeder and tell her about your boy. If she is a good breeder she will give you some type of a refund. I had a friend that this happened to and she bought the dog for show. When she called and told the breeder she said she would take the dog back or give half her money back. Of course she couldn't give the dog back she had already fallen in love with him. So she got half of her money back. She was told that this is a genetic thing. That she should never breed a dog with only one testicle. So in turn it messes up the blood line. And we all now that a good breeder breeds to improve the quality of our precious boxers. Good luck with your boy.

It depends upon the *type* of contract you had with the breeder, if you would receive any money back because of the undecended testical. Was is a show potential contract or a pet contract?

Show potential contracts - generally the pup cost double (or more) and generally done with co-ownership with the breeder, at least until the dog finishes.

Pet contract - puppies are less expensive, and generally sold on limited registration, and with spay/neuter agreements.

Different breeders do contracts differently. Go back and look over your contract.

My puppy Blaze, who is ten weeks old only appears to have one testicle that has dropped also. You all have me worried now! I will try to feel for the other when he wakes up. Poor little guy!

I checked him and it appears to be the left one that is missing. It also looks as though there is a small bump but I am not sure. How long does it take for it to come down?

I have a question since we are on the subject if anyone could help me id really appreciate it, As I wrote bfore my maximus will be 1 in a few weeks and his testicles neve dropped has anyonever heard of a vet pulling them down?? I know they can do it for humans but I dont know about dogs. I know if I did have this done I could not breed him becaue of the genetics, and ill probably just have him neutered anyways but i was just curious.
Thanks

When I was doing research on this subject, I read that it was unethical for a vet to do, so you probably couldn't find one who would.

Well, Blaze's left testicle has dropped but not his right one. We are going to the vet this week, we will see what he says.

Oliver also had one undescended testicle and we just had him neutered on Monday (he'll be six months old tomorrow). He had to have two incisions; one little one to get the descended testicle and one six-inch one on his abdomen to find the undescended testicle. The vet really had to fish around for it as it was situated high up in his abdomen. We were very relieved to hear that the undescended testicle was healthy as there is a very high risk of undescended testicles developing cancer. I think it's because of the temperature (?).

Anyway, please don't hesitate to neuter your little "one-nut" as the consequences could be very serious.

As for Oliver, he doesn't seem to have noticed that he's just had major exploratory surgery and is as lively as ever. He's not too happy about the cone on his head though...

Blaze is going in on feb 25th. We can feel his other testicle, it is in
the inside if his thigh kind of in the fold by his tummy. The vet will only have to make one incision, he will go in and pull it down. My poor Blaze! Wish us luck!

We got Bailey at 5 months and I didn't know there was such a thing as only one testicle dropping - I didn't even notice. We were going to get him fixed anyway so I guess it was a moot point. However, the neutering was more complicated as they had to cut his tummy area to remove the one that hadn't dropped - basically, he had more cuts than normally required with two dropped testicles. And I remember looking at his tummy afterward - it looked awful. The incision was quite long and I thought was stitched horribly. But within a month, everything went back to normal and now you can barely see the scar. (I was just being paranoid I guess thinking that the next day his incision should look fine - oops).

That said, the vet did speak of cancer etc so I certainly wouldn't leave it alone. You do get kind of mad though - I now know this person sold Bailey because she couldn't breed him with one testicle (and she wanted to) so she just hoped that people like me (who didn't know to look) wouldn't notice. And when I tried to call her a couple of times, she never returned my call. I love Bailey to death - I just hate dishonesty from people. Hope I never see her on the street! I just look at it this way - her loss - Bailey is the best boxer in the world and she doesn't know what she's missing. I just hate it that people like her actually breed these precious puppies.
