I give my two showers once a week. I use an aloe and oatmeal shampoo made by Vet Solutions, it smells like pina coladas. I bring them right in the shower with me (one at a time). I shampoo them, then I do my stuff, rinse the dog and we are done. Minx is used to it and just sits patiently while I finish. Blaze is a handful because he is not quite used to it yet and tries to get out, but we are working on it!

Sandi & LeedsDevil -

Thank you for the info and descriptions. I have one at home, but I wasn't sure if that was what you were describing or not, so thanks for the clarification. Magnum loves to be brushed with it so I'm sure he'll like it in the tub as well. I have to keep it put up as well b/c they also think it's something to chew on.

I also use the aloe and oatmeal shampoo made by Vet Solutions. I couldn't remember the name - it's at home and I'm at work! I love that shampoo.

If everybody had the space and the right hook ups I'd suggest a waist high tub in the basement like I have. When I had my grooming shop my dag built be a frame and I bought a second hand tub from a plumbing place, it was a cast iron one and very heavy. But I'll tell you, it's soooo nice for bathing. There's no bending over or kneeling on the floor. I have a sprayer attachment for wetting and rinsing. Plus it works good for all sorts of other items that need to be washed or rinsed off. Just a thought for those of you who are handy and could take on this project yourselves.
If I had to do it again I'd buy a fiberglass tub it's lighter.:D

My boys HATE bath time - the go all stiff and claw like I am murdering them.

My 1/2 boxer boy is about 2 years old and 60 LB. He was a "farm dog" for the first year of his life and therefore got to be a little piggy!:D Now that he is "citified" I try to keep him clean (which is hard, because he is white). He also breaks out into a rash if I use anything BUT diluted baby shampoo. My question is: does anyone else's dog HATE being brushed? I use the softest bristle brush - I think it is supposed to be for kitties. He acts like it is painful and tries to get away from me. If I make him sit still he cringes with every stroke - any ideas? I thought he might just be super sensitive due to his light colored, rash susceptible skin.

I'm sure you're not hurting him, he just wasn't taught to accept being brushed as a baby. You might consider a rubber mit which can be purchased at places that sell farm supplies and horse stuff. Use some special treats to reward desired behavior. If his skin is very sensitive or allergy prone make sure bath water doesn't get to hot as this can irriate them further. I don't suggest human shampoo's personally. I'd say perhaps oatmeal shampoo or other dog formulated product for dogs with sensitive skin. There are products with no added perfumes or high suddings agents, just sometimes hard to find.
Good luck

I give my boys baths about every 4-6 months...as needed. Murph is easy...I just tell him get in and he hops right in...thank goodness since I just had him weighed and he is 75#!! Hugo, on the other hand has to be forced! Once he is in there he is fine. He's 65# so that is a fun job getting him in. I bathe them in the bath tub...a sprayer would be a lot easier though!!
They are so happy after their bath it is so cute!:)
