Hi Everyone,

Kiera seems to be having quite the problem with gas... or should I say I'm having a problem with her gas!! haha She always seems to be passing gas, some more stinky than others. I've tried to look up why that could be but most reviews are saying that it's probably her food, I am currently feeding her Orijen a top of the line food, could there be something in there that she is sensitve to? Maybe could it be her treats? she doesn't get alot during the day though... Her poop isnt usually runny or anything, she's just always farting! haha I know boxers are known to be gassy... should I even be worried at all? Other than that she is in good health growing like a weed and still as crazy as ever! :P

It could be she is sensitive to something in the food, or the treats. What kind of treats do you give her? I would try to stay away from the treats for a while and see if that makes a difference (you can always use a few kibble pieces as treats in the meantime). If that doesn't help you could try adding some Prozyme to the kibble and see if that helps.

The food may be too rich for her or it could be the treats. Treats are probably the easier one to eliminate. If you stop giving them for 2-3 weeks and the gas goes away there's your culprit, if not then it may be the food or could just be her. For my gassy Boxers that got gas on every food fed I gave an acidophilus capsule and some Prozyme and haven't smelled either of them in years.

Good luck!

I feed Rocki Blue Buffalo and she has gas issues on it (none before on Natural Balance). I think I was feeding her too much. I used to give her a Kong with 1/4 cup of her food and some baby food in it each day and she gets a few treats. In addition she was getting 2.75 cups in two feedings with 1T Stoneyfield Farms yogurt. The kong and treats have stayed the same but I reduced her feeds to 2 cups with 1 T of Stoneyfield Farms yogurt and the gas is much improved (not gone but significantly less frequent).

when we switched from TOTW yellow to purple .... ALL of kushes SMELLY gas was GONE ( in 2 days). she still farts , but no smell !! ;0 .... loven it.

we also have done the yogurt ( still do this ) and probiatics (sp) none helped her smell.

so try some things 1st ( treats ect ) & if all else fails , might just be something in her food.

I always just thought it was a given with boxers that they were going to have gas. I've not met a boxer owner yet that didn't complain about this problem, but they're worth it.

Did it make her breath smell better? Mine like the Plains kind, but it makes their breath STINK.

Nothing will ever help with their farts. No matter what they eat or how much or how little their farts ALWAYS smell the same. It's really kind of sad, because I can tell you which one did it based on the smell. Haha!

Well you've met one now. I haven't smelled either of my Boxers in about 3 years, nor have I heard them pass gas in that time either. It's all about diet and supplements. Definitely does not have to be a given.

gassy

My Boxer, Rupert, had the WORST gas I ever experienced when we first brought him home, ..I thought I was in for a life time of smelly dog farts..but somewhere around month 5 he stopped smelling so bad. The only thing I changed was I switched from Acana puppy food (the same company that makes Orijin) to the adult formula...and all of a sudden the smell just stopped....too much protein in the puppy food maybe?? I read that puppies don't need "puppy" formula. Get a good quality "all life stages" food and try that, I have my dogs on Acana Prarie All Life Stages, and it worked for Rupert. He is now smells great...He even sleeps with us.

Thanks Everyone!
I am trying to cut out her treats and see if that helps her! Although I believe I may know what treat it is though we were giving her Denta Stix from Pedigree so I got rid of those first, and so far it seems to be working, but I'll give it time before I start introducing new treats to her! I dont mind the odd fart haha but when she was clearing a room every couple minutes or so gotta try something! haha :P
