Gas Relievers for Dogs?

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can give our dog to relieve his gas? He has these bad spells of nausea and I can just hear the gas moving around in his stomach. He does burp and fart, but it seems there is still a lot trapped in his stomach and it is making him feel so sick. Since we have tried everything else I can think of I thought maybe if I can relieve his gas I can stop the nausea.

For a quick solution, when Arabella gets a bout of gas, which is about 2x a year, a spoonful of plain yogurt usually works for her. Don't use flavored because it can contain sweetners and such that can be harmful to your pup. If gas is an ongoing problem you probably want to switch your pups food. It may not be agreeing with your pup. Thor used to be able to clear a room, daily! We've switched foods and now I can't tell you the last time that happened.

We have tried the yogurt and a prebiotic powder with no change. We have also tried countless foods including 8 months on a raw diet. I wouldn't even care if he farted up the whole room every night, it is just that for some reason he can't seem to expell the gas or at least not enough of it and he gets really sick for hours. It is awful. I am thinking about getting a special bowl or something to slow down his eating as well.

You can safely give dogs Gas-X (Simethicone). I have given it to Caney on two occasions before, when she appeared very uncomfortable right after eating and I feared she might be bloating. It helps very quickly. I wouldn't give it on a regular basis, only when it gets bad or if you suspect something like bloat.

For a slow feeder, we have the regular metal bowls that are designed not to tip over -- like these -- and just turn them upside-down. Works great.

Thanks for the tips. I will keep some gas x on hand. I just sent my husband to the pet store for some had relief pills by gnc and a slow feeder that martha stewart makes. So we will see how it goes. I have been trying to switch Griffin off the I/d he has been eating for the past 2 weeks but I can't seem to get anywhere :(

We give Juno Prozyme. Which is not a probiotic, but a digestive enzyme. Works great, she used to be super, super gassy (and we have tried her on many different foods) and very rarely do I notice any gas from her now. It helps keep her poop firm too. :D

Hey guys, that Martha Stewart feeding bowl actually works really well! I think I even heard Griffin chew some of his dry food! Can anyone give me the dose of the Gas-x? I think I bought the 125 mg gelcaps.

I always just got the infant drops and gave an adult dosage. I have to 2nd Prozyme though as someone else mentioned it's not a probiotic but digestive enzyme and helps the food to digest quicker so you don't get that build up of gas. Since using it I have never heard or smelled any of my dogs pass gas and I've had as many as 3 at once (2 Boxers and 2 GSD). You can also try pepcid. Where I know it's an acid reliever, whenever my first Boxer got like that it usually helped.

I looked up several websites for dosage of Simethicone for dogs, all said the same thing: 1/4 adult dose for small dogs; 1/2 adult dose for medium dogs; 1 adult dose for large dogs. Pretty vague, but from that I would guess that it's pretty safe to give (it can even be given to cats -- same dosage as for small dogs).
A Great Dane website I came across said, "if you suspect bloat in your Great Dane give 10 gelcaps immediately -- equivalent to 1640mg Simethicone."
When I gave Gas-X to Caney the first time, I believe I gave her three 125mg gelcaps (probably gave her 2 initially and 1 a little later on), per my vet's instructions. This was when I suspected possible bloat.
