Kimber & Mac

Super Boxer
I guess the unavailable thing, though euphemistic, may help to get some of the pets adopted. I mean it makes it pretty obvious taht you save them now, or not at all. I don;t know.

Boxerworld DEFINITELY convinced me to neuter Mac. We were cocker spaniel BYB's for years when I as a child, for fun not profit, and we did always make sure they went to good homes, but we didn't know what we were doing or have contracts. We just didn't know any better.

Well, Mac came from a BYB. He is CKC registered. I didn't know any better at the time (oops). We talked about breeding him. Finally, we decided to have him neutered but mainly for health purposes. I really didn't want to do it. I kept t hinking about how cute Mac is and how sad it was that we won't have more of him.

WEll, a couple months on Boxerworld and I have learned that I definitely made the right decision. I can't even fathom anymore WHAT I was thinking. I now look at BYB's and think how selfish, etc. Well, I almost was one. It is amazing what a little education would do.

So - the point of this was twofold:
1) Thank you all for all that I have learned.
2) I think having each member educate someone about spay/neuter would be great. I just don't kn ow how to bring it up. Give me some info/facts polite ways to say it and I will be happy to help - I am always at dogparks, etc.

Kimberly

PS - PLease don't think badly of me for all of the cocker pups that my family put in this world. WE honestly did not have a CLUE what we were doing.

Boxer Insane
One way I bring it up is to wear a boxer rescue t-shirt, FBR sells them on the website and I have a spay/neuter there aren't enough homes for them all tank. Find them and more here: http://www.doghause.com/petshop-shirts.html Actually having a female, I get tons of people who want to breed with her, they can't see that she is spayed. I tell them I couldn't do that, I work in rescue and everyday pedigree dogs are being put down in our shelters. I spend most of my free time trying to save homeless boxers that there are too many out there. If they are looking to start breeding I start mentioning things like she is not show quality confirmation so I haven't competed to see if she would best represent the breed, she hasn't been health tested, etc, etc. I say this in as non-preachy of a way as possible. If the coversation goes on I try to bring up: "and those horrible pet shops" somehow. My list of conversations that can really get me going: spay/neuter, breeding pets(BYB), and petshops. Petshops are the worse in that they know the evil they are doing. Like you said, if you educate people about spay/neuter, etc there will be a lot less BYBs.
By the way, did anyone contact you yet? I emailed a few people trying to track down who is covering your area of that area code. See we need help! :p PM me if they haven't.
