We have been letting our two boxers on the bed lately in the morning or at night when we are just sitting around. Both of them are female. We have noticed a funny smell on the sheets - smells sort of like if a dog was spraying to mark its territory. It's not the usual Boxer gas but something else. I cant tell if it is coming from the dogs or maybe from the big knuckles they chew on. Has anyone else had this issue?

Im not positive if this is what you are smelling, but my Harlie sometimes expresses her anal glands in her sleep...on my bed! EWW! It is a disgusting smell...Once she did it and it smelled all the way to the mattress, even though only a small amount had gotten on the comforter. She has to have them expressed every few months at the vet...could this possibly be what you are smelling??

I've heard of the same thing....anal glands. A friend of mine has a dog who has to get his anal glands "drained" every now and then cuz they get infected. But she said some of it got on the couch once and they had to get rid of the couch cuz the smell was so awful! Ick! For your sake, I hope that's not the problem!

I bet that is what you're smelling. Is it kind of a stinky (really stinky) musty smell?? Every once in a while, especially if Louie gets scared (which is pretty often) he'll express a bit of the... whatever it is in the anal glands and it STINKS... very gross. I've heard you can get them expressed, but I haven't had it done, but that may be what it is. Or maybe the chewy's you're giving them. If they are those big nuckle bones, those stink too so that is very possible.

ohmygawd!! is this something that happens only to females? zeus is over 2 years old and i dont' think i've ever smelled anything that foul coming out of him that i'd have to throw something out. i'll do a search on that now, though.

yeh, it sounds like it may be their anal glands. I can tell you how to do it, but I think it would be best to have the vet do it and also show you. WARNING! Wear rubber gloves on BOTH hands:LOL:

My mother had a Pomeranian that she had to take to the vet every month to have the fulids released. Could be the bones too, I think those reak, but usually only right after opening them. If they have been out of the wrapping and they have been chewing for a little bit then I dont think that would be the cause of the smell. If its bothering then I would say to call a vet and ask.
