frontline plus or advantage?

I believe Frontline gives a little more protection over Advantage. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Frontline also helps protect against ticks. It is a little bit more expensive. But I guess it all depends on the area you live. For example, I live in Southern California, and problems with ticks is not common around here, so I just give them Advantage.

I use Frontline on Toby. I have never used Advantage. The only thing I notice with the Frontline is right after I apply it he runs a little crazier than usual. It may burn a little but it works! I live in an area with ticks and so far I have never seen any on him or my last boxer and the fleas are history!:D

We use Frontline Plus - kills ticks, fleas & flea eggs. Advantage kills only fleas, Frontline (regular) kills fleas and ticks, but not flea eggs.

I don't use either but know that my previous vet preferred Frontline. Since I am not a user may I ask if vets recommend this year round or seasonally? Is it similar to how they prescribe heartworm--all based upon the area you live in?

My experience with my vets is that you can do year round, which we don't like to do, or you can stop after the first hard freeze in your area. Start reapplying in the spring.

All of my pets currently use Frontline. Although, I will be researching this a bit more for more alternatives without the use of chemicals. Each tube lasts 30 days at which time another tube is applied. I live in New Hampshire so our vet only gives it to us when needed. During the spring, summer, and early fall is the norm for us. During the winter and late fall when the temperatures are to cold for ticks and fleas we do not use anything, as we don't need it.
