Frontline on dogs pose threat to unborn baby?

Any moms-to-be out there with Boxers? I've got a question for you or someone who knows...my question, does frontline (flea/tick preventitive) pose a danger to my baby during pregnancy? Thru the winter I've not used it because they never have fleas and it's cold enough here where the ticks aren't a problem through the winter months. Now that it's warmed back up I've hesitated starting them on the preventitive because I'm pregnant and don't want the chemicals used on my fur-babies to harm my unborn baby. However, something must be done, because I'm checking them over twice a day for ticks and finding 4 or 5 a day. So, what can I do? I'm just really hoping the preventitive is no threat because I'm used to loving on my fur-babies and they're used to it to. Any of you mommy's of both fur-babies/skin babies dealt with this?

I use frontline on both of my dogs. When I was pregnent with my ds in 02 we just had Zeus and used frontline on him and have never had a problem. I would suggest once you put it on your dog to wait a few hours before you let your dc around your dog to make sure its dryed and to wash your hands very well after you put frontline on your dog.

I would ask your obstetrician about the use of this, and perhaps your veterinarian. I bet they have been asked this before and they should be able to give you advice.

An alternative that the holistic vets recommend is garlic---I ordered Buzz-off garlic chewables for dogs to help keep the mosquitos and gnats off mine--some people use it in place of frontline etc--but I have a seriously sensitive indoor cat so I'm taking no chances--they're getting frontline too.

Yeah definatly agree with that. I would not use anything like that whilst pregnant, or even with babies in the house. But then again I dont need to. Id try and get some holistic treatment . We just dont know what affects all these chemicals and preparations have on us.

Still don't know anymore

My vet says it would be ok. He said to wash my hands quickly after applying and let it settle in their skin for a couple of hours. He also said I could wash them after a couple of days. My obgyn nurse said after asking a few people around the office, that she did not know what to tell me because no one there knew what was in frontline. However she did say that 6 different members of the staff at the office had boxers and that they were all big boxer fans around there! Anyway, I'm afraid to take my vets opinion...after all he is a vet. I believe I've read on here about "Revolution" a heartworm/flea&tick deal all in one...anyone know about this? Maybe it would be a safer option. No one out there used frontline (or similar)on your boxers while you were pregnant?

Could you have someone else put it on and then just remember you can't pet your baby for about 24 hours (or at least not pet where you apply it)? It really shouldn't harm you if it doesn't have a chance to get into your system by touch. My vet said they dogs body will absorb the chemicals in 24-48 hours. Just a thought. I don't blame you for being concerned.

I have three skin kids and used Frontline and Revolution for my cats while I was pregnant with all three of them. I even changed the cat box even though they warn you against it. Neither myself or my children have had any effects from it and my oldest is 10 now. I would put it on them right before you go to bed or are leaving the house for a little while, and wash your hands right after putting it on.

I use revolution on my dogs and it works great! But I dont know about the pregnancy stuff. I didnt have dogs when I was pregnant so I never had to worry. But to keep my kids from touching it I put it on when my kids go to bed and then it has a good 10hrs to soak in before they get up and pet the dogs. That might be a good idea just wash your hands good afterwards.
But I never heard of it posing a threat. But Im no expert.
