Tyson has always hated his crate and i have always hated to put him there. So one day I left him out while i stepped out for about 10 minutes, and when i got home and everything looked good i'd give him a two treats. i only left him out when i knew i was going to be right back and giving him two treats every time and nothing if had been bad. later i bumped it up to an hour and then a couple of hours untill he could go all day. we packed up the crate and there hasn't a problem since. But now he expects a treat every time I get home. if i forget he will sit in front off the treat area untill gets atleast one. but were both happy now. i always went with 2 treats (the kind that smell good) so it was more exciting for him.

My boxer just turned 2 in May. Up until say Jan/04 we would crate him whenever we were out. We purchased a baby gate and would allow him to roam the upstairs hallway, bathroom and stairs. He was great. Earlier this week we opened the guest bedroom to give him even more space. He urinated in the room and demolished my daughters plastic wastepaper basket. I don't know what got into him. He was doing so good. My wife was really upset because we had installed new carpet since he had appeared to be house broken for over a year now. Today I put him back in the crate, but I would really like to leave him out.

I have just started leaving my two babies out and Angel is 5! I started by doing what others suggested and left for a few minutes and I spoiled them as I gave them treats when I left and when I got back! LOL! So far so good
(3 1/2 months now). We had a rubber duck casualty last week but that is because SOMEONE (who will remain nameless!) left the duck out. Make sure you doggie proof :)
