I am feeding Beau Nutro Natural Lamb and Rice. He is doing well on it, small firm stools and super shiny coat. However, I would like to feed him the best food I can find here in town, so I am thinking about switching to California Natural. I know it's a good food from all of the research I have done, but it contains so few ingredients, I was wondering if he will be getting everything he needs from this food. I don't think it contains any veggies. Do any of you use it? I had read that since it doesn't contain all of the oils other foods do, some dogs skin can get dry and flaky. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this? Also Beau has a regurgitation issue that I am dealing with. I figure maybe this food will help with it...
Input please?

I feed both of my girls California Natural. They have been on it for about 7 mon. I haven't had any problems with their skin being dry or flaky. Their coats are so thick and shiny now. They both have thyroid problems and were having problems with bad hair loss. They are both on medicine but their hair wasn't growing back very fast. I switched their food to Cal Natural and within 3 mon their hair looked and felt the best it ever has. I am so glad I switched the food. Hope this helps.

A regurgitation issue doesn't really sound as though he's doing all that well on his current food - unless it's somehow not food related?? Fewer ingredients I would also take as a good thing - especially when most of them are given with their chemical names - but that's just MO.

If you're concerned that he may not get all he needs from one food, then how about rotating through two or three different brands, or even different flavours within brands? There're a few recent threads on the topic, if you want to read more. Good luck with your decision.

Nikki also used to be on Nutro Natural Lamb & Rice. Within 2-3 months on that, she started getting slight balding on her side. The vet ran thyroid tests, came back negative. She was diagnosed with Seasonal Flank Alopecia.

We then switched her to California Natural, and within just 2 weeks on that, her hair started growing back dramatically. We think there might have been something in the Nutro that she was allergic to because she also had very dry skin & huge flakes while on Nutro.

Cal Natural is a very good food -- we will never go back.

I'm feeding Samantha and my Beau Calif. Natural, too. Beau has only been on it since I got him, about a month ago, but he is doing well on it! Samantha has been on it longer.

I feed C California Natural and his coat is great! I used to use Nutro and he was flaky alot. No more with the Ca Natural. I am thinking of switching it up a bit but I've been afraid. I'm going to check into adding some other top 10 kibble.
Good luck!
