HI everyone...
I am new to boxerworld and i have 2 wonderful female boxers, Bailey and Riley. They are the loves of my life. I have a question for anyone out there though? My first boxer, Bailey, have a more smashed in flattened face while my puppy Riley has a longer snout. Are there 2 variations of boxers out there? Someone told my husband there is an English Boxer and an American Boxer? Is this true. Thanks to anyone who can help...

Welcome to BW. You will find that there are a lot of opinions about whether or not there is a difference between the American boxer and the European boxer. The breed standard is pretty much the same for both places so the dogs should not look that much different. In my opinion there is no differnence between the two. You can do a search for the many links that discuss the difference or lack of difference between the two.

Welcome! I'm in North Carolina also - Holly Springs (near Raleigh).

The answer to your question is that there are a lot of bad breeders not breeding to improve the breed and conform to the boxer standard. That's where the longer noses are coming from - and they seem to be particularly common in North Carolina. I don't mean for that to sound rude to your puppy, but that is the answer. My two rescue babies aren't exactly show material themselves!

You will hear talk about differences between American and English or European boxers, but ultimately a boxer is a boxer is a boxer. While some will argue that there are differences from region to region based on what's stressed in the show ring and what traits are common in local lines, the differences are minor and do not include the longer noses that don't conform to the standard in any country. It's just poor breeding, unfortunately, but it doesn't make them any less lovable!

I love both my girls not matter what their differences... I was just curious as to why their faces were so different from even the "show dog material" boxers i had seen. None the less she is still beautiful to me. I love this website more and more everyday. Thanks so so much for those who responded..
