Frisbee

Has anyone taught their boxer to play frisbee? I've started to try to work with Lily (4 months) on learning what a frisbee is. She likes to play with it some, but quickly looses interest in it. Ive heard different methods, such as putting food in it (as a dog bowl), to give them the idea of (chase the dog bowl). However I haven't atempted that.

If I sit her about 2-3 ft. away from me and toss it towards her she will attempt to catch it, however with her being so young, I dont really expect her to be able to have the coordination to catch it very well.

Any ideas on how to familiarize her with a frisbee? Or am I starting too young?

Our Dino loves playing with his frisbee - I just started throwing it for him and he soon got the hang of it. He does have what we call his frisbee tantrum when he drops it and can't manage to pick it up again - he stands on top of it and digs like mad making frustrated yelping noises So best one is his red kong frisbee which is made of soft bendy rubber - gentle on his mouth and he can dig at it with his paws to pick it up.

We have tried to get Hurricane interested in it, but no luck so far. Maybe I need to get one of the Kong ones that are soft and try that. Good luck with teaching your girl to play with one, I can't wait to see pictures of her catching that frisbee!

It took me a long time to get Stormie to understand I wanted her to catch the frisbee. As a "trick" I started teaching her to catch small treats. I would step back about 3-4 feet and say catch as I underhand tossed it in the air. Once she mastered "catch" for the treats, I started using "catch" for the frisbee and she put 2 and 2 together. Now she loves to play frisbee. I use the "floppy flyer" (it's a canvas frisbee with a canvas covered rubber tube around the edge. It's real durable and soft on her mouth. HOWEVER, she has chewed through the rubber tube in 2 of them, the current one is lasting quite well though.

Ive started tossing treats to her in small bites when she comes in from using the bathroom outside. At first they would just hit her in the head and I would get a look like 'ok why did you just hit me in the head with the treat'. But after a few times and watchin our other dog catch them she started biting toward the treats as they came towards her some.

She doesnt seam to be very coordinated but she did actually catch two. I'm not sure if she tried or i just threw them in her mouth with her mouth open (haha). But hopefully before long she will be able to catch better and we can start learning to catch a frisbee.
