My dog is an incredible jumper. Any suggestions on how to make her interested in a Frisbee. I've been using an upside down frisbee as a food bowl for two weeks. She sort of chases the frisbee but doesn't grab at it and then quickly loses interest when it hits the ground.

Completely Boxer Crazy
I've tried with some of my childhood dogs, not any boxers. I did hear that you should feed them in the frisbee to get them used to it, and to make them WANT to chase it (hey, you're throwing my food bowl away!!) But I have never had any luck. If they aren't interested, they aren't interested.

Seems only certain breeds... sheepdogs..whippets.. are into frisbees. Makes me think its something that runs in the blood, like hunting!

You should try to get into agility if the frisbee thing doesn't work out?? It looks like a lot of fun to me! They have to go over jumps, through tunnels... I heard boxers can be good at it

Killian catches frisbee very well, is a little slower than he used to be and he doesn't jump and flip in the air like he used to, but still catches it. My Dh taught him and he did pretty much what you are saying, fed and watered him in it and made him really want it. Then just started throwing it for short distances and getting him to catch it. He loves it still and he is almost 9. :) Good luck!

I bought a soft frisbee for my boy and started by playing tug with it. Once he was really into playing with the frisbee, he became crazy for chasing it. Now he runs and jumps after anything that remotely resembles a frisbee. The trick now is to get him to bring it back, so I always have a piece of food to "trade" for the frisbee. Also, make sure you never chase him for the frisbee if you want your dog to bring it back. If they don't return it, the game is over. Soon your dog will love to chase and retreive the frisbee. Good luck!

Titan was never into chasing balls, frisbee's or anything up till this past spring. We got to playing baseball and playing ball with the kids and he wanted to join in too. Same with the frisbee once the kids did it then he wanted to play, but he'd do anything that his kids were doing just to be with them!

Our other dogs in the past (non-boxers) all loved chasing ball and frisbees too.

When I was trying to teach Jasmine to catch a frisbee I used the soft nylon one. I'd pretend like I was going to throw it and put it infront of her nose until she took it- praise, praise, praise. Finally she got the idea that I wanted her to catch it. She's not good at it and I cannot get her to do it outside, but she tries. Sophie, my cocker, is pretty good at it. Although she'd rather fetch a ball or a dummy before the frisbee. Good luck!

Frisbee

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie to the website but I already love it. My boxer is an awesome frisbee dog. Due to his speed and jumping ability I rarely see the frisbee touch the ground! I just thought I would throw a couple of tips on how I tought him. He didn't catch on to fetch right away but once he did it was all over, all he can think about is fetching. As someone stated, I started by throwing treats in the air while he was sitting, then start throwing the frisbee to him while he was sitting (alternating treats and frisbee), took about 2 hours and he was catching the frisbee at 50 yards. ONE DRAWBACK! I have to put the frisbee away now or he will constanly shove it at me wanting to play, he carries it everywhere and (until the new baby) would sleep with it. I hope you can get him to catch a frisbee because it is great to watch, for you and for all the other people at the park!

Odie LOVES the frisbee.......tastes great to him!!!!

We had a cheaper plastic frisbee that he loved to play with, but is now in the garbage. Next new toy is the soft frisbee. I swear he can jump 5 feet in the air to get it!!!!
