Friend or no friend

I have had my guy for just about 2 and a half years. In that time he has not really had a steady dog friend he sees more than once every two or three months. I am always concerned that he is lonely because during the day he is at home alone about 8 hrs each day during the work week. Should I consider getting another? The main concerns that I have are house training and not having enough room to play. ( We currently live in a two bedroom townhome ) I just thought i'd get ya'lls advice because I saw a puppy today that I seriously considered buying. Thanks for the input.

Rescue maybe?

Rescue Rescue Rescue We purchased our female Belle she was an only boxer till we rescued Boo a male boxer.
They get along great, my brother-in-law however has Belle's brother Brauner and he purchased another male boxer Boomer for him and they did not get along at all. His male was the boss and the new guy wanted to be the boss also, so it did not work out at all. They would fight if one went out the door before the other did. For us the female and male worked out better. I wish we had more room because there are a lot of Boxer's that need to be rescued, and I would do it again and again. If you could take some time off work to be with both of them, so you can see how they act towards each other, that would be better.

You know, I have to tell you, I intended to get my second after I moved into a bigger place, but the rescue had the perfect guy for us right away. We're having problems with the 2 dogs fighting and the behaviorist thinks that one of the major problems is that they just don't have enough space.

Tess loves playing with other dogs, but I wish I'd waited until I had more space for 2 dogs before getting the second. I don't regret my decision and I would NEVER dream of how life was before them. However, I'd wait till you have a bigger place.

Sorry to spoil the party, but I really think that it would be better if you waited.

Boxer and another

We had two females dogs and a male dog. We gave up our mix female, but we kept our Chow Chow male. My boxer is a LOT happier when her brother is around. Nemi keeps Sheeba company when she is in her crate when we are at work. When we get home he runs inbetween the crate and the back door and even if we open the back door first he still won't go outside until Sheeba is out.

The play together and respect each other when one has something the other wants.

The are my perfect guard dogs. If anyone breaks in Sheeba will hold them down while Nemi chews em up!

I agree on the it is better with 2 philosophy.. I always thought my boy was lonely or bored when we were not home. Fortunately we wern't in our apartment very long before we got our house. And practically the first thing we did was look for another boxer to add to the family. But I agree with bodacious, RESCUE!! There are soooo many wonderful babies out there that need a loving home and many rescue groups that just deal with boxers. I don't think I will ever buy from a breeder again. We have had soooo much joy from our rescue boy Champ and he loves sooo much for giving him a good home. I don't think I would dismiss the idea of getting another one now if you have some type of yard or place they can run and play but if you would be really cramped on space or don't have a place for them to do the "boxer burn" then I would wait. We have two males and they get along great now but it took us several months of working with Champ to get him to come around to Oscar (but this was also because he was an abused baby). So I would recomend a female if you could. But I would trade our boys for the world. Good luck on finding the new addition to your home.
