Advise needed, we have a 9 month old girl Ruby, and are thinking of a playmate for her, is there a right time to do this, and would you advise another puppy or an older dog.
Hey I don't know much but I think if she is house broken go ahead and get another. I would try and get another that's either a pup or maybe just a little older then her. So this way their on the same level of energy and such. But that's just me. I'm sure those that have two or more can tell you better.
Honestly, another dog would give them a playmate, more exercise, and a distraction from destruction! I advise it (in my opinion). I would never have less than two dogs, myself! Good luck! :D
Someone asked this on another post once, and I wish I could remember the response gmacleod gave. Maybe you could search the forums and see if you could find it?
thanks for all your replies, i think we had probably made our minds up anyway, just needed some reassurance, we have so much fun with Ruby, and endless laughter, were sure she will love a new playmate
I have Ruby, she is 2 years and 4 months old, I also have Luka, he is 2 next week. They love each other and have always been great pals from the day Luka came home. They spend their days together but are crated separately at night
While I am and advocate of two boxer homes(twice the fun, twice the laughs) bear some things in mind. Personalities will vary, how they respond to training may vary, and so on and so forth. I'm sure that everyone will tell you that having two females is not advisable because they both will try to be the alpha. Whether you get an older or younger dog is purely your choice and I think that either way you would be fine. Make sure you make introductions(I was advised to put pup rear facing when meeting my dogs for the first time and this worked well), others will advise you on this I am sure, but good luck and let us know what you decide and all the other good details
