Frequent Uniration

I hope I am posting this in the right spot.

Last week I went out of town to a business conference, my husband met me for a long weekend, so we had to board Lucy. She was at the vet's office and they had to give her some shot updates. Even though I reminded my husband to take her food, he forgot , so she had whatever food they feed her. When we got her home yesterday, she had very loose stool and had been going out every 30 minuets. She pee pees two or three time each time we take her out! She normally sleeps through the night without having to go out, but she woke me up last night about 2 to go out.

Do you guys think that she could have gotten some kind of infection while at the vet's office? This is the first time we have boarded her so I am not sure if this is normal or not. My mom said that her lab holds it the whole time they are gone on vacation (I really don't think that is possible, but....):p

Have you guys had similar experiences? Am I worrying for nothing?* I almost forgot she is also shedding much more!

Sounds to me that she picked up a urinary tract infection -- probably from "holding it" or from not drinking enough water
while she was boarded.

Do you know how to take a urine sample? First, find a glass jar (or an old prescription bottle can work fine if you wash it out
thoroughly).

First thing in the morning, go out with the dog and take a paper
plate and the container outside with you. When the dog begins to urinate, let some come out and THEN place the paperplate under the stream and catch a little. Transfer to the jar. (It's important to not catch the initial urine as it can be contaminated
with other things and lead to inaccurate results)

Drop that off at your vet and request a urinalysis, telling them you suspect a urinary tract infection. If that's it, they'll give you antibiotics. If that's not it, you can arrange for a visit. Generally, however, too frequent urination is a give away (as is increased attention -- sniffing -- from other dogs)

I assume her stool is back to normal? If that's also out of whack you can drop off a stool sample too, though that was probably just a temporary reaction to the c hange in diet (and stress). You can add a tablespoon or two of pumpkin or some rice in with the food to help clear that up if it's just loose but not outrageously
smelly or pouring out of her.

I wouldn't worry about the shedding -- it's that time of year

Thanks for the suggestion! I went ahead and made an appointment. Since she is drinking so much water, I am afraid it may be her kidneys.

I must admit that the idea of collecting the urine sample myself helped me decide:rolleyes:

Consuming large quantities of water and frequent urination are often signs of diabetes.

Hopefully this is not the case and it is indeed a simple bladder infection.

Frequent Urination After Hard Playing

Hello,

This is my first time leaving a question, so I hope I'm leaving it in the correct place.

We have a boxer, Belle, that is almost 2. She loves to go to the park and play, but we've been having trouble with her urinating on the furniture after we return from the park. Belle goes potty before entering the house after play time, but it doesn't seem to matter. It's almost as if she is too tired to let us know she has to go outside.

Belle drinks a lot at the park, but she also urinates at the park.

Does anyone have any suggestions? She did have a little infection, but the Vet said it is gone.
