Boxer Insane
Arabella bolted on me this week too. My husband is stationed temporarily at Ft Lee, about 2 hours away. We went down for a short visit. He's in a small apt. and when we finally had a break in the rain, I took the dogs out back and let them run a bit off their leashes. (the nearest dog park is 40 miles away) Four bldgs. back up to each other forming a semi contained area. I have a command "far enough" which lets them know it's time to turn around and head back or stay put and let me catch up if walking. Everything was going fine until I dedcided it was time to go back in.
We headed for the back door and Arabella just stopped and stared at me. I knew I was in trouble before she even moved. I was already on the stoop when she made a break left and was out of sight. I told Thor to stay, which he did, (he's such a GOOD BOY!) and I took off after Arabella. She had crossed the small parking lot and was stopped when I came around the corner, I called her to come, and then she crossed the main drive of the complex. (the brat!) I noticed a car coming into to the complex and I told her to stay. She didn't. She ran right in front of the car! Thankfully the driver was going slow and paying attention. The car stopped about three feet from Arabella. She rounded the car and started towards me. She stopped a few feet from me. I walked up to her and grabbed her harness and took her home where Thor waited patiently. She had to go into the back bedroom by her lonesome for about 45 minutes, and then had to stay on floor in the living room for a good two hours before she was allowed up. I was SO MAD at her and yet I wanted to hug her because she wasn't hurt. Needless to say Arabella has lost her off-leash privilages for a while.
