Foreman is almost 10 months old and is still thin he is being neutured tomorrow and I don't know if this will help I have taken him to the vets numerous times and the vet said he is fine but I can see his ribs. I have him on the most expensive puppy food with a 32 for protein that costs 70 dollars a bag he has been on this for quite a while and that hasn't helped I have dewormed him so many times even though the vet told me he is fine I wish he would gain weight any suggestions?

dont worry

I just looked at the pics of Foreman and he doesnt seem too skinny at all. Boxers are suppose to be lean and seeing their ribs is normal. You also have to remember that he is still you and active. His metabolism is still high and probably burning off all the calories. Another thing is the protein will assist in muscle growth but will not always lead to weight gain. He seems pretty muscular and looks normal. Give it some time til he settles down, then im sure he'll start filling out

I, too, think he looks perfect. He's not too thin at all!

Keep in mind that Boxers are a lean breed. You should always be able to see at least a few of their ribs. Combine that with the fact that your boy is only 10 months old (and Boxers are a rather slow maturing breed). They tend to be tall and lanky until they are about 2 years of age, and they "fill out" between 2-3 years of age. You should not expect to see the finished product until he is about 3.

Give him some time - I say he looks great ;)

I think Foreman looks good. Atlas looked just like that when he was that age. He will fill out as he gets older. Don't worry.

Have to say I agree with the others--I think Foreman looks great! Not too thin at all! Boxers are a lean breed, and you should be able to see the last couple ribs on them. He will fill out as he matures--which will take some time, he's still quite young at 10 months, as Courtney said, they don't really start to fill out completely until about 2 yrs old. Give him time--he really does like perfectly within range! :)

Also--I'd be careful with that high of a protein content in his food. Puppies shouldn't have a protein content higher than 28%, even though he is a bit older, you might want to consider going with a lower %.

I'm concerned about, "I have dewormed him so many times even though the vet told me he is fine.....".

Why would you introduce medicine into your pup when the vet says he is fine? What's the point in going to the vet when you don't follow their advice?

Unneccessary and excessive use of medications do nothing good for a dog or human, and may be harmful.

If Foreman is eating and drinking well, having no problems with his eliminations, is active and alert, showing no negative symptoms, and the vet has given him a clean bill of health, relax and enjoy him.

Dogs, like all other animals, including humans, come in all shapes and sizes. Some gain weight by looking a pictures of food, others can empty a banquet table down their gullet and not gain an ounce.

I believe reading that it is "normal" in the "appropriate weight" Boxer for the last three ribs to be visible. However, normal or average does not mean that any variation from this is a symptom of problems.

Indy has always been a "lean" dog, well muscled, but hardly any body fat. His sister/cousin Ava definitely has a thicker layer of fat, which may be due in part because she is a female.

Most of us are paranoid when it comes to our dogs, always thinking the worst if they hiccup, sneeze, or cough. Most of the time, the problem exists only in our minds or imaginations.

Better to err that way than to neglect our friends.
