My next door neighbor (who has 3 dogs) is having artificial turf installed in her backyard. At first I thought--YUCK. But they have it laid out in the street in front of her yard and it looks real. I guess they just hose it down to wash the urine off--no more yellow spots. No mowing no watering.

I never thought of this as an option--my "babies" are destroying my front yard one yellow spot at a time.

It's a terrific idea! I looked into it but it was cost prohibitive in my area. $2500 for a 10 X 10 foot area.

Excellent wear and they do a lot of business for people with dogs and it holds up I was told.

I've never thought of that. I bet it would work great. I hear you about killing the grass "one yellow spot at a time." Oscar is a terror at times.

Gunner doesn't have the problem but Quinsi is killing the lawn. I have heard adding two teaspoons of tomato juice into their food a day will stop the yellow spots. I am hoping to find out soon. We just started the tomato juice this week.

Keep me posted about the tomato juice. We also never had a problem with Boo but Skye (our male) has been killing the grass.

hey i saw that not to long ago at our local home and garden show...i was curious about how it would feel on there feet, i didnt get close enough to touch it, and i was wondering how you would go about cleaning it...if you know how please let me know, we are seriously considering it not because of our dogs but because where we live we dont have dirt we have lots and lots of sand and it is very difficult to get grass to grow and keep it growing.

Would be awful if your dog is a digger! What an expensive hole to dig! :)

I made a deal with my dogs. They can ruin the back yard as long as I can have the front to myself. So they don't do business in the front, only the back. I try and keep the front nice and green and my gardens weeded and looking lovely, and no stains or poop in them! Works fine for me.

I just went to a show this past weekend. i had heard about this turf before, and of course they had exhibitors there. i asked a few of them about it. Turf felt pretty real, looks good, and is supposed to with stand urine (can be washed off even with bleach w/out discoloring), and supposedly withstand digging too. Weeds and gophers aren't supposed to come up underneath too. The exhibitors i talked to said their work was guarenteed for 20 and 25yrs. the only thing is, like adeinert said, very cost prohibitive. it was $8/$9/sqft. installed. hopefully more and more companys will start to provide this service and cost will decrease. wish i had the $$ now to install! (too bad our yard is like 1000sqft+)

That was my concern, how about diggers? my dogs too have their own area on the side of the house and back, they can do what ever they please. When they come in the pool court or out front, they ask to go to their side to pee! Respect
