Boxer Insane
Been feeding Raine TOTW since I made the original transition from the breeders food (Nutrisource).
Never have liked the consistency of her stools but it wasn't terrible to the point that I felt the need to change. I did add Fortiflora at one point and thought it made a difference but looking back I think it was more wishful thinking.
Now with the recent recalls from Diamond I decided this was the perfect time to change.
I still have about 15 pounds of the TOTW Wetlands and a case of the canned food (combination of High Prairie and Wetlands). It will take quite a while to get through the case since I only add a tablespoon of canned food to her dinner each evening.
I want to eventually have her on Orijen (chicken formula) so yesterday I picked up a bag of that as well as Nature's Variety Instinct (also chicken) and made up a batch of the transition for the first week.
I pour her food into a glass container and keep it in a kitchen cabinet for easy access and fill up the container about every 5 days or so.
I got out a huge bowl and mixed up 4 cups of her original food, 2 cups of the Instinct and 1 cup of the Orijen.
Instinct and Orijen both call for feeding less than TOTW so I backed off her meal last night a little less than an 1/8 of a cup.
Dinner went well as Raine doesn't savor her food at all but devours it. I have no idea if she even noticed the change in flavor! Breakfast this morning was a repeat performance.
I swear her poo this morning was a bit firmer. Again, this may be wishful thinking since both new foods have less fiber than TOTW (4%) and Orijen @ (3%) and Instinct @ (3.2%). I don't think the lesser amount of food fed was enough to garnish a change in her stool consistency and I don't think I was over feeding her anyhow.
I don't recall reading any previous threads about an actual transition so thought it would interesting to share one. Hopefully it can help someone in the future. I'll post updates as we go through this.
