hello,

I am new to the board. I have a 10 month old boxer, his name is Brutus. We are feeding him california natural lamb and rice right now, just switched from nutro max puppy. Anyways he eats like its his last meal, just very very fast. When we take him out and he goes his stool is always soft and sometimes the consistency of diahrea. Anyone know what I can do to get this corrected. He has been to the vet and is healthy. No parasites or worms. Maybe its the food?

I will take spells of mixing Sammy's food with some plain yogurt, too. She is 10 months old, and just in that short lifespan I am already realizing that she does better on some foods than others. I think it takes a while to figure out what is best for them. We are still trying, too!

Fast eating...

one way to slow him down is to place something solid in the middle of his food bowl so that he has to eat around it. My Brutus was eating fast until I took one of his solid toys that took up most of his food bowl and put it in the middle and he had to eat around it. Slowed him down. Now he eats slower and doesn't burp and gag the way he used too. He's almost 3 years old and I've been feeding him twice a day, every 12 hours too. So he doesn't get a lg quantity of food at once. He has Irritable bowel syndrome so he has runny stool frequently and is on a grainless kibble. I have added a tablespoon of pure pumpkin to his food to solid his stool. But alot of activity or hot weather will give him runny stool too. It will take time and getting to know your Brutus in knowing the causes.

No we did a gradual switch. You may be right from the stand point of activity or hot weather... I can remember he does have firmer poo when its comfortable outside.

Now that is a great idea! I will try that tomorrow morning!

also try wetting his food it will make it stick more to the bowl and he won't be able to inhale it. I use 2 TBs of yougart in Mercedes, I mix it up real good and it now takes her a good 30-40 secs to eat where as before she would eat it in about 10 secs.

My Brutus (Sir Brutus Buckeye) used to eat the Nutro Max Large Puppy food until a few months ago. He is on the active formula now and once we switched him his poos were more solid and he wasn't eating like it was his last meal either. They toy idea is also good. I used that a few times when he was smaller and ate really fast.

Good luck to you and Brutus.
