Foaming at the mouth

Kanika (8 months) finds quite a few frogs hopping around the yard and has just a field day with them. She smacks them and barks at them wanting them to hop around some more. After a few minutes we'll go out and save the frog from death. But while she's playing with it her mouth gets all foamie - real foamie. By the time she's done she looks like Santa Boxer (I'll have to get a picture). Why does she foam?

may be something to do with the things that come out of some frogs skin.?

I think she probably just gets foamy from getting excited and playing- Payton used to do that when we would go to the dog park.

frogs or toads?
toads release a poisonous "pus" from hundreds of glands around their head when agitated. I wouldn't let my dogs play with toads :/

We have frogs in our garden a lot and my dogs are all foamy when they're playing with them but then again they are when they're playing real hard also.

Punchie did this once after getting ahold of a frog (okay, may have been a toad, I didn't really get a good look). It's probably some type of skin secretion, maybe for defense??? Nothing to worry about though. We just gave Punchie lots of water to rinse her mouth and she was fine.

why does he do that?

My Layla gets like this too. It is always when she is really excited and playing with other dogs. It must just be another boxer trait. The first time she did it I thought something was wrong with her. Now I notice it is all the time when she is excited, so I would'nt worry to much about the frogs being the issue.

If the frogs are in your yard then they are probably toads. As someone stated, toads secrete a poison that is a defense mechanism - it irritates the dogs mouth and causes the salivation. Even though it is a poison it won't hurt them. But it usually stops the dog from eating them!
