How do you decide which one?

I love the look of both!!!

I think you have to decide for yourself if you are up for crop aftercare. This means vet trips, taping, posting, etc...it takes quite a commitment to get those ears standing right.

My personal preference is floppy... I think their faces loose a lot of expression when the ears are cropped, but that is personal opinion only.

I guess you weigh up things like your preference for one look or the other against things like cost, commitment, ethical perspective on cosmetic surgery if you have one, risks associated with surgery - and come to a final view on whether or not you wish to do it. You would also need to consider whether you can find a vet who is both skilled and willing to do it (not all will, and not all are good at it either).

If you've no preference for which look (like them both), then it would seem a relatively easy decision to make

All the boxers I had as a kid had cropped ears and it was such a pain, I'll never forget how much work had to go into cropped ears. I also remember being so embarrassed everytime I had to take the dogs anywhere because they had tape on their ears...I guess it impacted me for life LOL. I also like the natural look a lot more then cropped.

Floppy! Floppy ears give a boxer a puppy look that I love. Our vet won't crop ears. Although I have to admit, if I ever got a Great Dane, I think i minght have the ears cropped. A boxer looks like a boxer no matter what kind of ears, but a Dane doesn't look like a Dane unless it's ears are cropped. Just my opinion.

Definetly floppy. Nothing in the world is more relaxing on a cold winters night than a boxer in your lap and running his soft wonderful ears through your fingers.(he loves this so) lovicon They also have the best expressions that are enhanced so by their ears. Just my opinion.

The question is....are you going to show or not? If you are, then the preference is, despite how the standard reads, is for cropped ears. Old preference dies hard, and it will be a few more years/decades before uncropped boxers will get the same consideration in the show ring.

If you aren't going to show, then I always recommend not doing it. For no reasons other than: a) there are very few vets talented enought to crop ears the right way...most are butcher jobs at best, and b) the amount of work and commitment it requires to get cropped ears to stand right.

Good luck with your choice, but like gmacleod said, if your boxer is nothing more than a pet and you like both looks than the choice is easy.

The older I get the more my personal preference is floppy. Twenty odd years ago the Boxer I shared my life with had cropped ears. Not so with my current girls. For me it's as simple as asking myself why I'd put my dog through the pain of surgery if I'm not going to show the animal.
