Well I was petting Lennox and found a flea on him. But you know when there is one there are more. He is 12+ lbs and 7 1/2 weeks old. What is the best safest way for me to get rid of his fleas?

Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (Food grade DE AKA Fossil Flour). Can be taken internally and/or used topically. Do a Google search to find more info...

Personally I started my boy on Frontline Plus when we got him at 7 1/2 weeks, he's now 14 months and never had a problem. I understand it is a chemical however I have found it to be safe for the years I have used it and the many dogs I have used it on.

Sorry, I don't think this is the right place to post this but since we were already discussing flea treatments I figured I would update you. I had bf pick something up quick for Lennox's fleas, but was scared to use it and I am glad I did not. It was Hartz, and I read some bad things about their line of products online. We plan on returning the Hartz and picking up the Orange Frontline Plus pack tomorrow or Monday.

Hey BetsyB...am I understanding this correctly that you can give them this internally and it will repel fleas/ticks externally?

Oh good! Yes I used Hartz on my cat one time, I honestly didn't think he was going to make it. He was shaking, jittery, shivvering, meowing like I have NEVER heard a cat meow before, he was hiding behind anything he could get behind, I was giving him baths to get the stuff off, it was horrible. I truly didn't think he was going to make it. Thank goodness he did and it was years ago. I've since used Frontline Plus on him a couple of times and had no problems. Not a fan of the cheaper products such as Hartz, Bio Spot, etc.

Hi jwray. I am also in PA and the fleas are Horrible!!! I got Tyson frontline plus and some flea and tick shampoo (not hartz). I have heard many bad things about hartz. Now I am trying to gte them under control inside my house. So discouraging!! I am going to get some food grade DE. You can get it online. I have checked all kinds of places near me, and they don't have the food grade. And yes, it can be taken internally. BetsyB knows more about it than I do. She told me (posted earlier in this forum) a little goes a long way.

It should be sprinkled on their coat, and also on the rugs/carpets in the house. As fleas are the source for tapeworm, I would recommend that if your dog has fleas you also feed it to eradicate the tapes.

To treat the yard, do you just sprinkle it on, or do you water it down and spray the yard? I would like to treat the yard as well as inside the house. Not too sure if DE gets wet, it would work or not. Thank you all for all the great advice. I actually found food grade DE for sale on ebay. Who would have thought? I guess they do sell everything. Not to be nosy, but how much do you pay for how big of a bag? I know you can't post websites, but I was just wondering.
