My little Cody has had dry skin since the weather got colder, and after reading many posts on dry skin and dandruff this morning I decided to try giving him fish oil (or Omega-3) as lots of people suggested.

My question is: what is the best way to give it to him? Do those of you who use it open the gel caps and put it on their food, or is it okay to give him the whole gel cap? He gobles down pills like a champ--don't need to hide them in food or anything.

Also--how much should I give him? He's an 8 month cutie pie, a little over 50 pounds.

Thanks for any help!

I give it in liquid form now and just mix it in with their veggie mush (I feed a raw diet) but I used to give their salmon oil using gel caps.
When I did that, I would feed whole capsuls as treats (~4 a day).

I use derm caps, but I get it in liquid form. I have heard that they get more benefit when you put the liquid in their food rather then have them swallow the capsules, but I don't know it that is really true or not.

i give the capsules

i just drop one in his food every day. i also mix in a little more than a tea spoon of canola oil into his food per day it has helped ALOT with his dry skin. for a while there, he has HORRIBLE dandruf, but the oils have seemed to help. good luck

I give my dogs liquid salmon oil and the bottle says 8 ml for a 50 lb dog.
