Ahh! So I'm making thanksgiving dinner for the first time for my DH, grandma, bro and bro's gf. My parents are out of town, the in-laws will be in FL - so that leaves no one to make it besides me.

At the age of 25 I am NOT a good cook - well - not that I'm NOT a good cook just that I don't cook much so this is daunting to me - to have to make a turkey, etc!!

If anyone has any tips please let me know! I'm mainly concerned about the turkey.

I'm going to boil the gizzards and heart, liver, etc for Rocky I think - does anyone else feed their dogs any part of the thanksgiving meal??

I usually give Tyson some turkey on thanksgiving. i am cooking dinner for my in-laws..I made my pies on Sunday and froxe them. I will put my turkey in the oven at 2am on Thursday on 250 and it will be done by the time we eat..

Use the Reynolds Oven Bags.
I can cook a 20 pound turkey in about 3 hours. SIMPLE!!!
They really are almost fool proof (not that you are a fool)!!
I hate to cook....I don't like it at all and I am not good at it. I choose not to be!
Put some flour in the bag and shake it up, coating the inside of the bag. Lay down some celery stalks (I think it says you can put onions or other stuff in the bag too but I never do). Instructions included with the bags are simple and easy.
Rinse the turkey off....place in the bag on top of the celery. Seal with the twist tie thingy it comes with and COOK. Browns nicely in the bag as well. No need to take it out of the bag until it is done and ready to eat.
So much less time than the traditional way. Tastes terrific!

I agree with Susie! Use the Reynolds oven bags. I used them last year and didn't even put anything in it with the turkey. Works great! And since I'm a horrible stuffing maker (I don't even know how) I cheat and use StoveTop Stuffing and use chicken broth in it instead of water. There's all sorts of "cheaters" and short cuts you can take if you want, and no one needs to know but you! Good luck on your first Thanksgiving meal! You will do just fine!
