Tegan's heats lasted about a week and a half :( We went to the pet store and bought her 'panties' that she had t o wear when she was inside. I found that female (human) pads worked the best to absorb her discharge and the odor.
It only took Tegan a day or two to get used to this and when she was kenneled I would take them off so she didn't rip them off - this means that you have to do laundry quite often so I left her in her kennel with a washable blanket the I threw out after everything was done.

The heat lasts 14 to 21 days. My Tina's heat is usually 21 days although I have noticed that in summer it tends to last shorter (about 17-18 days) than in winter.
We use women sanitary pads for her as there can be quite a lot of discharge.
When she is in heat please don't forget to walk her on leash and never let her out in the yard all alone as she may escape (or a male dog may get into your yard).
She may also get aggressive to other dogs while in heat.

Tess heat lasts for 3 weeks. You will find that she will keep herself very clean with just an odd drop on the floor. That is unless we've been very lucky. We have now had her spayed so no more heats. Thank goodness. You can also get a deoderant tablet for the vets to disguise the smell from male dogs although I have no experience of if it works. Be aware that she can get pregnant at any time during her heat although generally it is between day 10 and 16.
My girls first heat lasted anywhere from one week to two weeks. I used pampers and cut a hole out for the tail. They looked so cute wearing them, Cuddles didn't mind them, she hated the heat and forbidded Bandit any acess and Daisy hated them at first but did get used to it. The two older are fixed now, and we are waiting for Ellie to go into her first heat, she is almost a year. FUN FUN FUN.
