We finally got the long awaited clearance to bring our Thumper along with us when we visit my father-in-law in the nursing home. Brought her last weekend for the first time and were totally unprepared for the overwhelming reception we received - all the residents loved her! I was so proud of her - our little 7 month old bundle of energy was so well behaved and sat calmly for two hours while everyone petted her. Sorry, just had to brag - Cathy

Way to go Cathy and Thumper. I have been considering getting Rocky certified so we could go to nursing homes. I know how much a pet can mean to the people living there. A well trained boxer seems well suited to this type of work as they have so much love to give and revel in being the center of attention.

That's great!

Toffee comes to visit my Grandma in the nursing home sometimes and most people just LOVE her! She's very good with everyone, and very patient.

It's amazing how animals can help the elderly and disabled in a such a simple way...love is all they need! :)
We have an elderly couple 2 houses down who have become a Mom & Dad to me. They just recently put their little mix doggie down, Buddy, due to many health issues and age (he was 13). Since then, my Xena has wandered over there, opens their gate (yes..she figured that out for herself!) and sits on their porch until one of them notices her. They invite her inside and there she stays for a couple of hours just giving them companionship and loving! They find her docile nature amazing, and often comment on her ability to make them feel so much better. The elderly gentleman especially, would love to have Xena there 24/7!! I always felt that Xena would make an excellent therapy dog because of her loving nature. Boxers...elderly...disabled...they all have one thing in common...they just want to be loved!

**ps...I don't just let Xena wander...I always know when she is heading over there..she starts off the porch and looks back at me for "permission" to go over and I just say.."go ahead Xena...go see Cathy & Leo". :) **
