I have my 10 and half month old female boxer, I believe she is starting her first cycle, I noticed that her vulva was slightly swollen last week, this week I notice that her vulva is larger than last week. Is that normal? She's my first Boxer, I had a female German Sheppard before, but with the tail and hair I never really noticed the vulva during her cycle. Please let me know if I am being a over concerned mom

It is quite possible that your girl could be starting her first cycle at 10 months of age. Is there a reason that you haven't had her spayed?

That sounds normal - although it varies from a girl to a girl. You should probably notice her nipples swell up as well, and she should start grooming herself more often then usual.

That sounds about right. Our neighbors dog went into her first heat 2 months ago and her thing looked like an upside down hershey kiss.

That sounds right to me too. My Jenna did all that fun about two months ago. Our little ladies are women now.

Thank You

Thanks for the responses, and yes I did notice that her teets were a little swollen and pinkish, My poor baby, just seeing her run and that deformed looking thing looks painful, but she is still herself. To answer why I haven't got her spayed, is because I would like to breed her at least once. But again thank you

I really wish that there was some way we could have that link broadcast across every television in the world. Now that I work for rescue here in my city, it brings reality to light, its so sad, the things we see. There is so many abandoned dogs in the world.

Thanks so much to BW, we can help educate some folks!
