haha! I'm a fan of thrift store toys, too. One was a pressure activated monkey that would hoot when squeezed. Purdy removed the noisemaker with the skill of a surgeon and she'd walk around carrying it as gently as possible. It would eventually start hooting and she'd carefully set it down, watch until it stopped, then start all over again. Her movements were so comical, slow and exaggerated. Too funny! The other day I threw a squeaky toy and it bounced into my son's room. She came bounding out with his fuzzy Christmas stocking, pleased as could be!

I thought that kids stuffed animals weren't good for dogs?. I've got 3 kongs that I've had since we got Jasmine about 2 years ago, but the reason they are still in perfect condition is because no one plays with them. I've repaired all the stuffed animals before x-mas twice. Second time around has been much better. I've been keeping an eagle eye open for any gnawing going on. A few other goodies are the Tirebiters, 4 paws products (nearly indestructable), and there are some rings that are pretty indestructible. Sophie has this soft latex basketball (3") that she LOVES! The only thing that happens is damage due to over use...my throwing arm sure gets its workout several times a day! Oh, I just picked up 2 more stuffed toys at Wal-mart, too.

We got a "Booda Bone" for Christmas and then Sally has this horrible plush "Frankenstein" bone with rope "arms" that she loves. Besides those, she just has a couple little toys (a plush ball and bone). Unfortunately the toy she loves most is a NASTY little basketball (from one of the "Little Tykes" basketball sets) that's about half inflated (it has a hole in it) and stinks. She carries it around the yard like it's gold and tries to bring it in the house. I don't have the heart to throw it away. :)

My parents have a mixed breed (a found dog) that loves tennis balls - she gets them and bites them until they break - she's been doing it for years. She used to chase them until she got fat.

I've collected half a dozen soccer balls from the neighbor's yard. They don't last long in my yard...they're very nice people and I've offered to buy new ones, but they never take me up on it.

Well he did it, he destroyed his first toy.smashicon.. poor gorilla lost his stuffing and sound box angelicon...it was his favorite toy. Guess I need to find a more durable one....

Haha no that gorilla toy is not very durable at all - even Wilson made a big hole in his and he's usually not destructive at all.

Anyway I found a really cool (and more durable looking) stuffed toy for Wilson at Pet Supplies Plus and he loves it! So I just had to go back and buy one for Guinness. :p I got him the bunny one (there's like 3 or 4 different types and I think I'm gonna buy Wilson another, lol); it's got fluffy parts, makes the funniest sound and even has 4 squeakers, one in each paw. I'll probably see you guys this Sunday and give it to him then! :)

p.s. Hope you're feeling better Leah!

may all the stuffed animals RIP

I tried for a while to buy toys at pet stores that Beau would not destroy. The one I gave him for Christmas claimed to be "rugged" for strong dogs. HA! He destroyed it in less than a minute. I finally started going to Goodwill and picking up old stuffed animals for him. He LOVES them. He has a ritual. First, tear off the ears. Next, rip out the eyes. Then, rip off the head. Finally, pull out all the stuffing and sling it around mommy's living room. It is hysterical to watch. When he's done with one, he moves to the next. The greatest part is that the ears he rips off are the perfect size for my mini dachshund to play with! Three toys in one!

I heard stuffed toys with squeakers are bad for our boxers because they will chew them up and can swallow either the stuffing or the squeaker and then its a trip to the vet.
So I avoid givimg them to my guy.

One day I was outside with the dogs and Daisy pooped something and I was like what the hell she pooped out stuffing from her blanket... That was gross... Why does she like to eat that stuff...

Haha! Well seeing as Wilson has nearly 20 stuffed toys and probably around 15 other kinds of toys (and I'm not counting all the bones and bully sticks he has lying around), I really should be buying stuff for somebody else!
