Fire Ants?

We noticed some bumbs on Wilson's rear a few days ago and with everything I've read on here, I figured they come and go. He has been laying in the doorway with the sun coming in and I figured it could be heat bumps or something since he wasn't showing any signs of anything else. He seemed to be acting and feeling perfectly normal.

Well, about two days ago, we noticed he is sticking his rear to whoever is close to scratch. He is running alongside the couch to scratch it also. He has also started scratching like CRAZY all over. He hasn't been around anything different, but we do have fire ants. All of the bumbs look like bites and he has a habit of sticking his nose in ant hills. If he doesn't get better in a day or two, he gets to take a trip to the vet.

Fire ant bites usually react this way in my husband and future brother in law also. A few days after the bite, boom, itches like crazy. We've given Wilson some benadryll, but does anyone else out there know of anything better? The benadryll doesn't seem to be helping much.

Id get him in to a vet. There are a few things other than bites that can LOOK like ant bites. Demodex is one. Not saying thats what it is, but better safe than sorry.

If I remember correctly fire ant bites will fester like poison oak. Maybe try a medicated cream that is good for itching. Fire ants can be a horrible nuisance. When I lived in Ga. there were fire ant hills everywhere. It has even been told that if new born calves are born close to a hill the fire ant can overtake the calf killing it if not on its feet soon. I remember having bites around my ankles and yes they itched like crazy.

Well, benadryll stops the itching within twenty minutes, so we figured it was just the bites. He started vomiting this morning, so his dad is taking him to the vet first thing. Thank you for your imput. The vet was my idea too, but since I'm only his aunt, I couldn't really do that.

Well, the oral benadryll stops the itching. The topical stuff doesn't seem to help.

Vet Trip

Well, Wilson's dad came home yesterday and found a spot on his rear that he had licked off. The vet said that it looks like a skin infection caused by an allergic reaction. He gave him a shot of Amoxicillin and Prednisone. He also has a prescription of amoxicillin to take for the next week. The vomiting did worry the doc, but if he is ok today, he said just to wait the meds out. He isn't itching as much since the meds.

Anyone else have this situation?
