Finally over Kennel cough but............

Jersey isn't coughing anymore thank god, he hasn't coughed in like a week but every morning when he wakes up his nose seems to be stuffed, He try's to breath through his nose and makes a snorting sound he does this about 7 times and then stops and doesn't do it untill he wakes up the next moning, This may be a sick description but he almost sounds like a human try to clear phlegm out of there throat, although it really looks like he is try to suck air in through his nose, I could be wrong does anyone know why he is doing this every morning? :confused:

I'm glad Jersey boy is doing better. I'm sorry I don't have any advice on his nose concern.

I just wanted to also say, I had a little worry like I posted in a thread about jersey girl coughing/gagging the first night when i got her. Well, that all has stopped she only does it once in a while maybe when shes eating, or something that I could understand to cause her to cough. Well, good luck, And glad to hear your boys doin better :D

That snorting thing he is doing is just due to a post-nasal drip. It's normal during/after kennel cough.

Hey Melanie -

My pup Fletch also had Kennel Cough and we went through the same thing during his recovery. He sounded like some 80 year old man clearing his throat in the morning, but after a couple weeks it just went away.

The one thing you might want to do is get him on some pet vitamins and Echinacea, asap to boost his immunity. I know with Fletch, once he got Kennel Cough, he was plagued for the next couple months with various nasal infections (green slime) at which point my vet recommended a more holistic approach to getting him well once and for all. Nothing worse than having to keep giving them antibiotics when they are that young.

Jersey has been taking Echinacea since I found out he had Kennel cough, And ever since I have gotten him he get's powderd vitamin c sprinkled on his food every other day.
I am so glad he is over the worst can't wait till this snorting this is over with also. :rolleyes:
