HELP! I am on my last straw. I have 2 boxers almost a year old. Daisy is well behaved, Dixie is a terror! Neither are aggressive, they're both very lovable and friendly, but Dixie will not stay in the yard. She continually finds a way out. We fenced the yard, but she still finds a way out. And once she's out, it's a nightmare trying to get her back. We've thought about underground fencing, but I heard it was a behavioral training. We have 2 acres, so we can't afford to put up higher fencing. What can I do to keep her in the yard?

Are you supervising her when she is outside, or is she left outside unattended?

Many Boxers can clear a 6 foot privacy fence. They need to be supervised when outside, and more importantly, you need to work on the "recall" command. This way, when they start to climb the fence or dig, you can recall them and re-direct their behavior to something more appropriate.

Siren was continually getting out the yard - I still worry about her getting out every once in a while. One of the things that we figured out is - stimulation. If she's got something entertaining her IN the yard - that helps. Also, we figured out some of the "triggers" or those things that made her want to get out after them....i.e. the neighbors new kitty. She'd bark like crazy at the kitty through the fence - so we figured out a way to stop the barking - and she doesn't get excited enough to jump our 6 foot vertical slat fence anymore.

RECALL is going to be your key though. If and when Siren would get out - all we had to do was call her and she'd come back from wherever she went. We worked really hard on the recall thing though - and it's worked for a lot of behavior things in relation to other people/dogs. When we call her - she knows it's for a reason - and she comes. Work on that first.

People on here kept telling me - don't worry, she'll get better the older she gets - more calm - they weren't joking. Her bad escape (trip to doggy jail) was in December - and as she found new ways out, we "fixed" them - and now we don't worry about it at all. One other thing that is working well for us is we leave the backdoor to the house open when we leave so she can be in the house or outside - and we can be gone for hours and they're both fine. We have only tried that a couple of times - and I'm a nervous wreck when we do it - but they've been "angels" every time.

Well Pimp climbs our 5 foot fence!! He'll be 16 weeks on monday. I am going to have to get a cable to keep him on so that he stays in the middle of the yard until we work on recall.
