I need some advice on the problem with incontinence in both of my females. Mandy is almost 11 and she is well controlled on PPA once a day. Sarah is only 4 and she is on PPA twice a day. She is still dribbling. What other meds are available?? my vet mentioned a drug that i have never heard of.. iam not crazy about giving them drugs anyway. Please share any experiences that you have had.

My girl Baylee had a ruptured bladder this past August and had emergency surgery done. She had a small amount of leaking before the surgery but after it was puddles! We also tried PPA however briefly and it didn't work (that was before the bladder surgery) so after the surgery (the new vet) put her on some stuff called DES. We gave it to her everyday for a week, every other day for 3-4 days now she is on once a week. She is doing wonderful. I wasn't sure I wanted her on meds either but I got sick of the puddles everywhere she laid. So, I am glad she is on it, and doing well. I didn't get a chance to see where you lived but ask the vet about the DES and if its available in your area and if it would work on your dogs. BTW: PPA is phenylpropanolamine. It is what they took out of Dimeatapp and other OTC meds because it can cause stroke etc.. It is a Vasoconstrictor which reduces the size of the blood vessels making the pressure in the vessels increase which then can make them rupture causing possible stroke or hemorrage. I know that is why they took it off the market for humans I wonder what it could do to dogs? Just a thought. Good Luck with your girls. Did the vet check for crystals in the urine or an infection? That can cause excessive leaking also.

Thanks Jamie. i will call the vet to evaluate for a bladder infection too. she peed in the dining room yesterday for no reason. I was home all day. I am vigilant about letting them out every 2-3 hrs. Maybe she does have something else going on. she was on the couch with me this morning and left a dribble. My husband is loosing patience. the old girl is good. it's Sarah that I need to fine tune!!
