My roommate has a female 10 month old boxer in her first heat (my roommate waited too long to get her spayed; gggrrrrrrr) and I have an 8 month old FIXED male. Is it OK to have them together or will aggression become a problem even though he can't actually get her pregnant? Also, how long does the bleeding part of heat last; I just noticed her bleeding yesterday.

Thanks for any help!!!

I would not leave them together unsupervised. An in-heat bitch will likely generate interest for the male, even if he's not capable of impregnating her - and in-heat bitches can be pretty snappy prior to the point they're ready to breed, so aggression/fights is likely.

When you're there to supervise, it is less likely to be an issue. But I'd say use your judgement on that. If he's getting overly interested, or she's getting at all snappy, then separation is the better policy.

Just adding on to what gmacleod said I found a little pit mix girl and she was either in heat (with out serious bleeding) or had just finished a heat cycle when I got her. She did not get along with ANY dog! Since her spay she just plays and plays with all dogs. Just adding my two cents that you should probably seperate them for your poor males sake...they girls just get grumpy I guess the same as people. :D
