I read that having two females boxers is not advisable. I have one and I would love to have another, but supposedly two females do not get along well. Has anyone had any experience with this?

There have been many posts about 2 females boxers that start to fight. It doesn't usually happen until they have both reach maturity and they have usually got along just fine previously. They are of course exceptions to every rule. There have been cases where two females continue to get along just fine. It's just not worth the risk. Could you live with have to rehome one of your beloved dogs and spend he rest of their lives keeping them separated. A male female combination would be much better.

I have heard the same...and I know the same for males. My neighbor got a male boxer puppy, Gino, a few years ago. Harley was 4yrs old at that time. He and Harley got along great until Gino turned 2yrs old. After that, Gino just didn't tolerate having Harley around. On the other hand, my sister's male boxer and Harley have been friends since they first met at the ages of 2 and 2 1/2yrs old, and remained friends until the end. I would have loved to have gotten an adult brother for Harley, but there was potential for disaster there and it just wasn't worth the risk.

never 2 female boxers

I can attest to it that 2 female boxers are not a good idea. I brought my 2nd on n when they were both 2 and once they had the 1st fight (over food) it was never the same. They had several terrible fights amost to the death. I couldn't get rid of either of them so had to live with seperate feedings in different parts of the house, no toys or bones ever and if one started to get excited over other dogs a fight would start. Loved them both but would ever have 2 females again. I have a male now (Ruby died in April) with my other female and alls good so far.

I didn't even know there was issues with having two females. I have 2 three year olds right and you guys got me crossing my fingers now. No issues yet other then the occasional little squabble over a bone, but nothing crazy. Its more Berts favorite game to get a bone and play keep away from Thena but sitting over it and doing a little growl. Bert is generally more protective of her food and bones but Thena is good about recognizing that and backing off, even though Thena appears to have more of a dominant personality.

Before I have had two females together, but they were years apart. One was 8 when we got a 6 week old pup. They were fine together as well, but I think our older one died when the younger one hit around 2 or 3.

It is not a given, just the combo most likely to have problems. In the end temperment comes into play and some girls get along fine. The problem is if they do not females really, really fight and can seriously hurt each other. If your girls are three and doing fine I would not worry about it too much :)
