Hi. Ali is 19 mths old and Sampson is 12 weeks old. I was feeding Ali, Natures Variety Raw Instinct and Sampson , Canidae. I wanted to switch them both over to the same food without grains. It was a toss up between Solid Gold and Timberwolf...after talking to the store owner who is very knowledgeable about her foods..we went with Timberwolf Wild & Natural. My concern is that feeding Sampson the Wild & Natural would be too high in protein, the store owner said that dogs are meat eaters by nature, and that she has done research and found that it will not hurt them as pups. I know from here that it is said they should be at least 15 months because of damage to the skeletal growth,is this correct. The Wild and Natural is 36% protein, if it is too high I will go with the Ocean Blue which is grain free but 26% protein until Sampson is old enough for the higher protein. Thanks for your help. The store owner might be right :) But might not, either... Thing is, there is conflicting research and evidence on that one, so it rather comes down to which research you choose to believe - or how prudent you choose to be.

Here are a few previous threads on the issue that explain a bit further:

If you want to be prudent about the protein though, and still want grainless, there are other options around with a lower protein level. These include Timberwolf's Ocean Blue formula, and a couple of foods by Natural Balance.
