Hi,

We have 3 new pups and I was wondering at what age do I need to introduce them to solid puppy food? They're only a week old right now and mom is doing a great job with them. I took them into the vet on Friday and he say that the mom needs to eat some puppy food to help her with gaining some weight and producing milk for these little ones.

Pups are:
1 female - fawn w/4 white socks and white belly
1 male - fawn w/ 4 white sock and white chest
1 male0 fawn w/ 4 white sock and white chest and belly with a brown patch

SO DARN CUTE!
Any help learning on what and when to do and/ or change things for the pups will be a lot of help!

Thanks,
BB in Petaluma, Ca

I am not an expert by any means but from my experience we always started pups on puppy food soaked in warm puppy milk (the milk replacer for pups) at 4 weeks. Sometimes earlier if mom decides she doesn't want to nurse as much anymore. My brothers GSD would always start weaning too early. With her last litter (meaning the last litter she ever had) she started weaning at 2 1/2 weeks. We actually would have go out (she was in a heated kennel/dog run) and make sure she was nursing them.
SO, I would talk to your vet and see what he recommends if you have any questions besides that but that is my opinion.

Give them snuggles for me! AHHHH puppy breath!
