hey guys,
im sure you all have heard this before, we have a 3 month old male affectionately know as kidney bean. the problem is. he hardly eats anything. when i took him for his vet visit he said that he was eating enough to get by, lol well that just didnt sit right with me. he only eats a small amount at a time i feed him like 3 or 4 times a day. i have started mixing moist food with his dry food. it worked a little at first but then he went back to what he was doing before. one thing though we have small children (1 and 3) i think part of it is he is trying to hold out because they are so messy. i seperate them at supper time but he just isnt intersted in his food, we dont feed him table scraps, but im sure he get some stuff because of the kids. it kills me because his ribs show a little. any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
scott and amanda

Not all dogs like every kibble out there, and actually there are some that just don't like the stuff at all and will never eat it readily. Have you tried different brands/formulas to see if there are others he may prefer? What do you have him on, anyway?

Our Maggie is a very picky eater. After 9 different brands of puppy food we've settled on Nutro Ultra canned & kibble. I also mix some hot water & vita-gravy into her food to get her to eat it. So far thats the only thing that has worked. She's 6 months old, 41lbs & 21" tall so I guess it's working =)

I was feeding my 11 week old puppy Saha Iams but she didnt want to eat, she would either play with her food or spit it out. Consulted my vet and switched her over to Wellness puppy formula 5, the main ingredients are fish (smells like fish too) and she went nuts over it. I was mixing the Wellness and the Iams together but she piced out all of the Imas bits and spit them on the floor. I guess she just just didnt like Iams, Welness seems to be much healthier anyway. Hope this helps.

he he... I have a super skinny 8 mos. old... oh, the heart aches... We sometimes beg Chloe to eat. I jokingly say that she's got a super model physique and just watches her weight.

The truth is one day she stopped eating. We mixed - we spoiled (bad idea); switched to another brand and started over... Now we don't mix canned, as your pup will learn to wait it out for something better, we don't add eggs, or tuna, or yougurt - or whatever else it was that I did not to leave Chloe on an empty stomach... She is fussy with her new kibble (which she picked herself) - but now is much better than before. SHe eats at least one meal a day (we offer 2). I add hot water to the kibble sometimes - it intensifies the smell & the fact that she has to wait 3-4 minutes for it to cool down, makes her want it... :D (that's my favourite food trick).

Other than that; we plan on switching to raw. We're half way through our second huge bag of Evolve - and when it's done - we'll be doing the chicken (neck) dance. Yuck! I can't wait!... (as long as the super model likes it - I'll sacrifice)... On a serious note however, raw (or barf) is supposed to be better for dogs - and apparently no dogs refuse it. I hope NOT to disprove that theory...

Good luck feeding the little guy. (and little ribs are ok for a pup; it's more troubling if the spinal cord and hip bones show)

There is hope in sight. Abby was a terrible eater. Just like Pinkpuppy's Chloe from her above post. Finally when she was about 15 months or so, she decided to grow up and eat normally. We have just now (18 months) been able to put add-ins (yougurt) but I didn't dare try before for fear of her never eating! So, it can get better.
