Hi,this is my third thread. I hope Im not driving anyone crazy. Thanks to all who have helped with the feeding issue, but now I have another problem I need to figure out. Since Ali getting the poops because of the food switch we have had to keep her crate open at night so she doesnt poop in there. Now,every night she poops on the floor(sometimes twice and pees once). Her poop is still very mushy so we dont know if it is because she cant hold it or is it becoming habit? This has been going on for two weeks. We tried twice during the last two weeks to keep her crate closed at night but she pooped both times. She is 5 mths old...has never pooped in her crate or peed before the food issue. Should we continue leaving her crate open and letting her poop on the floor until her poop becomes solid again or are we just making it okay for her to do this..which might cause another problem. thanks. Maureen

Well, it could end up causing you a few problems if she gets the idea that pooping in the house is OK. But it's certainly better than having her poop in her crate.

What happens though, if you simply leave the door shut? Will she bark to wake you up when she needs to go? Or, what about setting yourself an alarm for mid-way through the night to get up and take her out (just like you would with a baby puppy that couldn't hold it's bladder all night long)? That might be a better option for you than having her pooping inside - it does risk turning the clock back on her housetraining if it's OK to go inside some of the time. She won't necessarily continue to differentiate between night time and a "special licence" because she's sick ;)

Thank you. She doesnt wake us up before going ,but she will cry after going. We take her out at 11:00 pm ,but she has been only peeing...the other night we heard her get up at 1:00 and she went...too late when we got to her. I will get up at 1:00 and take her out until her belly gets back to normal. My husband gets up at 4 am and takes her out ...but she already goes twice by then. It almost seems like she waits for us to go to sleep...lol, she hates to go out in the cold anyway. Thanks for the advice. Maureen
