Boxer Pal
As we get to know our adopted boxer a little more, we suspect she was abused by men. We work with her to have men give her treats, ignore her when they walk in, etc. Our neighbor tries to bring her a treat every day but she has not yet let him near her after 4 months. She always growls and barks at men she doesnt know. But, when she is highly stressed she will fight with our other boxer. For example, we had several friends over this past weekend, a few men she didn't know and she ended up fighting with our other boxer three times, one occasion we thought we were making progress because she was letting a guy pet her and our other boxer was sitting right next to her being petted as well, but she attacked out of nowhere. Even when they were being ignored, a fight broke out. My husband recently knocked on the door because it was locked, they thought a visitor was coming, started barking, jumping around, she didn't recognize him outside the screen door and fought again..

She just gets so stressed out, and Im not sure that what we are doing to reinforce her that men are okay is enough.. any other thoughts? As a last resort, I have heard of trying prozac, but I dont know.... please help! we feel bad for our girl!

Completely Boxer Crazy
We put our white Boxer female on Prozac recently after discussing her dog aggression with an animal behaviorist. She was diagnosed with fear anxiety and OCD. She had other behavior that also manifested besides the aggression, like pacing and separation issues. We also noticed that she had food issues--she would play with her food before eating.

The prozac has just eliminated those anxiety issues so I can address the aggression. It's not a replacement for obedience issues. Now when I correct her she "gets it" instead of having a mental breakdown. She also is so much more relaxed around the house she can enjoy life a little. I noticed that she never used to wag her tail, now she's a happy girl.

I think it's worth a try--just make sure you discuss all the issues with your vet.
