I'm new to BW and I hope I'm placing this post in the correct forum. If not, I'm sure a moderator will move it :)

I know that Boxers do not need much grooming but they still need to be cleaned and cared for so I wanted to see what everyone's favorite products were. I'm looking for things from brushes and nail clippers to shampoo. I figure that before I go buy something I should see what experienced owners have found works best for their Boxers.

Thanks,
Cassy

As for a brush, the ZoomGroom by Kong! I suggest you used it outside because it will get every loose hair off your dog and there will be much less of a clean up outside. Plus the rubber "points" seem to give a massage as you use it, so most dogs seem to really enjoy it.

I do have a box of doggy wipes I keep in our SUV for quick clean ups after hikes or the dog park. But at home save the money and use old towels or inexpensive new ones that you can just dampen and then throw in the wash afterwards.

We use a dremmel for Bode's nails. If you start slowly they will get used to doing them that way and it's much safer than clippers.

For shampoo I use Earth Bath's Mango Tango. It's soap free and hypoallergenic. I dremel my dog's nails and get my dremels from e-bay. Mine don't need to be brushed really but I do have a zoom groom for the once every 6 month (or less) brushing. Other than those 3 things and water that's about it for us here. Mine get a bath once every 6-8 months or when they're dirty whichever comes first.

I will second the Zoom Groom for brushing and the dremmel for nails. cool2icon The dremmel might take some getting used to but as long as you take it slow he should be fine with it.

I make sure that any grooming product I buy lists ALL its ingredients somewhere on the packaging. Non-edible products for pets are not required by law to list all of the ingredients -- often they just say something like "contains oatmeal and aloe" when in reality that percentage is very low compared to all the other harmful ingredients. The better quality products however (and still a few of the bad ones) will have a complete ingredient list, just like what you would see on human products. That way you can easily flip over to the back and read the ingredients to see if the product is truly as safe as it claims to be on the front label.

For shampoos, look for something all natural and soap-free (and again, a complete ingredient list). Earthbath makes great grooming products for dogs, I use their oatmeal and aloe shampoo on my two, and I know they have a "tearless" puppy shampoo as well. :) You can find Earthbath at most pet supply stores, I know Petco carries it for sure.

I second all three products! :D We've been using Earth Bath's Mango Tango shampoo since we got our boy, who also only gets a bath when dirty. It works good and smells great! After reading on here I also dremel my dog's nails and got mine off ebay. Although, with all our runs and activities I can't even remember the last time I even had to trim his nails. We have the zoom groom as well for brushing.

Dremel?

I had to Google the term, but I think I will be getting one of these. Looks like it could be handy for things besides dog claws, as well. Thanks for the info!

I agree with the dremmel!! It makes nails so much easier & less painful fir all involved. As far as shampoo, I use Hylyt, it is also a hypoallergenic shampoo & when Charlie Paper gets really itchy, I use Resicort condiotioner. Unfortunatly the Hylyt shampoo is around $60 a gallon, but we use it at work, so for me it's free.
