Sad but true
Not to be a downer, but it is true that the widespread popularity of a breed can really lead to a lot of pain through improper breeding and placing in improper homes. A friend who raises Borzoi says that the worst thing that can happen to a breed is for it to become popular, both from a breeding and a general welfare perspective.
It's a good thing there are so many wonderful, responsible boxer lovers here at BW to lead the way!

I am sorry, but I am not voting. As 'Lola's Grrl' stated, to make a certain breed too popular is asking for trouble. I don't like to think that the Boxer is going to be so popular that everyone will want one (or two). I saw in our local newspaper a couple of weeks ago there were two Boxers in the 'pets' column for sale, one a white one for a ridiculous price and one other for over $1,000! There are too many BYB's in our area now. Sorry.

I agree about the popularity thing with boxers. This can be very frightening. I can only try to be as educated as possible and let those around me know about pet stores, puppy mills & byb's.

I have mixed feelings sometimes about the popularity thing too. It's kind of like a hidden beach that you love, but you're afraid if you tell too many people the secret will be out. :o
