We're looking after my daughters' two dogs for about a week while she and her husband and son go visit his folk down south. Her Boxer Jess is the more dominant one and continually harrasses my Cini whenever I take them out for a run. Max, the big softie of a Black Lab will be led by Jess into all sorts of scrapes, but this time Jess bit off more than she could chew, so to speak.
When she took to Cini on this afternoons' run, Cini had had enough and laid into her big time. And instead of coming to Jess' aid as usual, Max chose to side with Cini and Jess didn't know what hit her. She isn't as old as Cini and they're much the same size, but Jess does suffer from Arthritis and because of this I have a feeling the Queen may have been dethroned. She went down in a heap with Cini on her biting away. (might have been more like gumming-she is nearly seven!) Now, my Cini is so laid back she just about falls over. It takes a lot of goading to get her that cross. I was just as cross as she though because I hate to see dogs fighting no matter whose they are.
They found some mud afterwards and cooled off in the puddles so I had to give all three of them washes and dry-downs and cuddles and band-aid their owies ( figuratively speaking) Not one of them is worse for wear except my frazzled nerves. Roll on Tuesday when I take the two of them back! I am smiling as I write this because I do love them--mud and all.
