I am fairly new here and love reading everyones posts, but I have not seen any posts regarding false pregnancies.
I have a beautiful 3 yr old female and approx. 1 yr. ago we came home to find our furniture shredded into small pieces. Then over the next couple of days she began to "dig" in our carpet under our bed (thats where she sleeps). Took her to the vet, said it was false pregnancy not to worry she would "slip" out of it soon. Well, it has been a little over a year and her genitals are still swollen.
Is this normal? What can I do to help her?

Once a female has a season, the vulva never goes back to the same size it was, and quite often with subsequent seasons it remains a bit larger each time. If it's been over a year, though, she should have had/be having another season by now; if she hasn't, you might want to visit a canine reproductive specialist to see what the problem is. Aside from breeding her, the only way to prevent false pregnancies is to spay her so that she doesn't have any more seasons.
