The episodes with the legs kicking sounds like the epileptic seizures my mom's dachshund had, but I don't know any dog that has developed epilepsy that late in life without some other underlying reason.
I agree with Pam, aka Holden's Mom, if you get the chance to get it on video, do so. I know it is hard to video your dog when you think you should be comforting and helping, but sometimes it is the best way to help.
