Eye Ulcers

Diva has an eye ulcer on her left eye. I am currently dosing her three times a day with eye drops the vet has prescribed. I have to go back to the vet in a week with Diva to see if the drops have helped.

I have already decided that if the drops haven't helped I will take her to an eye specialist - she has the beginnings of a cataract in her right eye as well.

Does anyone have any experience of eye ulcers with their own boxers?

Three of my boxers have had eye ulcers. Two of them were from eye injuries - either from wrestling with another dog or a possible poke in the eye from something else (the walk with sticks, so probably that). Both took quite an amount of time to heal. About 6 weeks before they would stop squinting. One male had the eye go cloudy and then clear up after another 3 weeks or so.

My third male has pin points on his eye balls with "halos" around them. They are symmetrical in both eyes and he's had this since we've rescued him. The vet called them ulcers, they've never bothered him.

My Harley had a eye ulcer when he was about 10 years old. His 3rd eyelid was basically keeping the drops from reaching the ulcer, so it would not heal. The vet did surgery to remove a part of the 3rd eyelid, and then we did drops for about 3 weeks (not to mention the e-collar the poor guy had to wear). It healed up with no problems. Also, if you should have to use an e-collar, look out. Harley decided that if we were going to put that on his head, then he was going to use it to his advantage and bulldoze his way past our bare legs (boy did that hurt). It's amazing at how sturdy that plastic is Good luck.

Yes Billy had an ulcer about a year ago. WE had drops from the vet and it took about 6 weeks to heal completely.

Amaya had a corneal ulcer this year and I did a little research. Boxers are prone to corneal ulcers due to their eye position. Usually they are very slow to heal and at times may need some minor help.

Amayas were already healed when I noticed them. The vet did an eye test to show that they were healed although she still has small spots which the vet says is minor scarring. She never acted like her eyes bothered her.

It probably is not a cataract or the vet would have told you that.

Boru just had eye surgury last week on Thursday for an ulcer in his left eye. Sometimes the eye drops are enough to clear up the problem (according to the vet). But Boru's did not, so I took him to the dog eye doctor. He is wearing the e-collar and getting lovely eye boogies all over it. Have to clean it a couple times a day. He is getting two kinds of eye drops and a pill every day while he recovers. My cocker spaniel keeps a wary eye on him after he clobbered her with the e-collar.

Eye ulcers can take months to clear up.
If you need to see a specialist Craig Irving in Plamerston North is excellent.
Hr runs a normal vet clinic but specialises in Opthamology.

I have heard that Craig Irving in Plam Nth is excellent and it is great to hear more positive feedback about him.

The eye ointment appears to be working and the vet wants me to keep Diva on it for another five days, so I am hoping that it does the trick.

Hi,
Several months ago my white boxer, Asha had what looked like a scratch on her eye and she was tearing a lot. I took her to the vet and he gave her drops. It did not help. I then went to an eye specialist for dogs. SHe has been on two different drops plus morphine drops for pain and ointment. Plus she has had to where a cone collar around her head for almost two months. It is
now starting to get better. It is long process, but needs to be taken care of.
Also, the docter did a scraping on her eye.
