HELP>>>Eye Ulcers

Hello,
Long time lurker, first time poster... My 10 yr old boxer has developed and eye ulcer. The vet has worked on removing it and for some reason it is not healing properly, so she is refering me to a specialist. We have an appt. tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
Has any other boxer owners experianced this problem with their dog?
Thanks!

We went through this, several times, with our first Boxer, Bo. Unfortunatley in his case he was missing part of the third eyelid in the 'bad' eye (removed when a puppy after a cat ripped it :( ). Because of the third eyelid problem we were not able to stitch the eye up but did find that the medication 'Amacin' excellent and the eye would heal eventually.

Tess also had a slow healing ulcer and her eye was stitched after corneal debridement and healing was rapid afterwards - I'm not sure if they are still stitching up the third eyelid (using it as a flap) - this is around 15 to 20 years ago.

More recently, Amy has had an ulcer but it healed rapidly after using Amacin.

Here are a couple of sites with info on corneal ulcers:

http://www.eyevet.info/corneal_ulcer.html

I hope your baby is on the road to recovery soon - these things are so frustrating :(

Thank you !

Thank you for all the information and the postings. I was unaware of these ulcers as being a problem for boxers. My appt is with the specialist at 11:00 am tomorrow, will keep you posted on his progress... Thanks again and I am very glad your dogs are doing well, sorry they had to go thru this though...
