I took Bailey today for her second round of shots. I asked the vet about her watery eyes and she said that she has an extra set of eye lashes inside the eyelid that is irritating the eyes. Not a lot of lashes, only a few, but enough to be irritating. She said she wants to recheck in a couple of weeks and then see if she needs to see a specialist (Bailey is 2 months old). I called her breeder and he said that he hasn't ever seen it in his dogs but if she needs surgery he would pay for it but only if his vet was used. I have a wee bit of a concern in this if the vet is not a specialist maybe more harm than good can be done. Has anyone else had this with your furkids?

thanks in advance

Yep, Roxy has it. If we're talking about the same thing, it's called entropia. What happens is just like you said, their eyelashes grow back into their eye. It's like constantly having sand in their eyes. Roxy's case is NOT too severe, she gets lubricating eye drops atleast 2 times a day. When she is completely grown (around 2 years old), she will go to the opthalmologist and they freeze them off. My vet and the opthalmologist I spoke with both said it's better to wait a little while as long as she is not suffering. With the drops, her eyes do not run very much at all, but she will still be getting them frozen in a few more months. That's going to be her Christmas present!!

No, its not entropian. It is called distachia (sp?) basically it is an extra set of eyelashes inside, not a lot just a few but enough to be irritating.

Thanks for replying though, I appreciate it.

Eve has distichiasis (x-tra eyelashes)

Hi my Eve also has this. I've had her since she was 2mos. she is now 10mos. The vet said to wait at first to she if was still a problem when she got bigger. Of course it still is. My vet gave me the name of a canine eye specialist. I need to make and appointment for a consultation. He said if he did something himself it would only be to pull them out and they would grow back in about 4wks time. Maybe this is what your breeders vet would do. Specialist are so expensive and the dog needs anesthesia. Your breeder would have to be very very generous to pay for a specialist. Good luck with Bailey. I just noticed the date on your post. Sorry. How did Bailey make out anyway?
