Boxer Pal
I was hoping someone could help,
I have 2 boxers Mylo (16months) & Lucas (9months) both of them are on the Raw diet and have been since we brought them home at 8 weeks.
Their meals consist of:
Breakfast: boneless, skinless chicken breast, chicken gizzards & hearts, beef, and sometimes pork.
Dinner: chicken quarter and sometimes a back
once a week (usually on weekend when they get a lunch) the have whole macrell and sardines.
We have had no problems till recently.
Mylo is fine, he loves meal time he even does a little dance just before he knows he's about to get fed.
Our concern is with Lucas, about a week ago his poop started getting a little runny(didn't think much of it), started replacing his boneless meak with bones, thought that would help, but as the days went on his poop ended up becoming pure liquid and sometimes even just shooting out of him.
Keep in mind his mood has been the same, full of boxer energy, tail always wagging, only problem was with his poop. I then started to notice that he sometimes wouldn't even want his dinner, he would just sit and look at it for about 10 minutes before eating.
Well, over the weekend after a night of having to let him out every hour, we thought maybe he had some sort of stomach flu??? (not sure thats possible in dogs) so we fed him a whole can of raw pumpkin for breakfast ... that stayed with him. then I ended up boiling what he would normally eat in a day (chicken quarter & Back). Gave him the broth to drink, because i was worried he would get dehydrated - HE LOVED IT, deboned the chicken and ground up the bones along with the backs, and some of that to him for lunch along with more broth..... everything seemed okay, after lunch he took a BIG POOP it was soft but solid, i believe it was the pumkin he ate earlier in the day. then for dinner gave him a little more of the cooked/ground up food.... later on in the evening he took another poop it didn't appear to be AS solid, and then before bed he once again had diarrhea. I gave him a half can of pumpkin before bed so he made it through the night, and for breakfast i gave him the other half with some of the ground up backs/ cooked chicken. My husband went home for lunch to let them out today and he said Lucas took a big solid poop, but I'm guessing thats only because of the pumpkin.
My question is .... could it be something more than an upset tummy? or should i just give it couple days of a little pumpkin with his meals?
I just wonder if maybe something else could be wrong with him, like i said his attitude is totally normal, only thing is his poop.
I'm just a little paranoid because my babies mean the world to me and I would hate to think I'm doing something wrong, or not doing enough.
I'm a little stand offish to taking him to the vet because I know they are going to tell me its his diet and start preaching to me how wrong it is to feed my dogs raw.
So i was hoping to get some feed back from you guys, before taking him to the vet and getting told what an irresponsible pet owner i am.
Oh BTW ... HIs older brother Mylo ..... IS TOTALLY FINE, no problems with his poop at all.
So any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong on this one.
Pumpkin taken in small doses will clear up runny poo. I am thinking a tablespoon or so with each meal.
Lots of pumpkin will result in runny poo.
So, giving 1/2 a can or a whole can will cause the poop to be even runnier?
Not sure if this is something I thought up on my own, or is this true? LOL

I've never heard of that. My vet will tell people to add pumpkin to dog's food to get them to drop weight, but I've never heard him mention how much to give or diarrhea. So far we have a few clients that do that or the same thing with green beans, and no one has mentioned diarrhea so far that I know of.
